I live and work in central Manchester, on my walk I realised I don’t see a tree for most of the journey. It’s not until I’m walking through a municipal park or ‘eco-park’ close to my destination where I finally see some greenery. Growing up in rural West Midlands, I suppose I may be more prone to noticing this kind of thing.
However, at a time when Manchester City Council faces increasing pressure to combat polluted air in its city centre and climate change affecting all countries, could the addition of more trees in urban environments help us with the environmental challenges we face today?
Trailflex was originally developed for trees under protection order, uses 3 recycled tyres for every square metre laid and allows drainage infiltration on site. Trailflex has been used to replace over designed and expensive tree pits that do not allow trees access to air and water across the UK… With Trailflex, trees can utilise rain fall, nutrients and air. Furthermore, Trailflex leaves no standing water, can be installed directly on to a membrane and is virtually maintenance free.

A multi-pronged approach is needed to fight poor air quality and improve our environmental impact in our towns and cities. A key combatant to this is the potential Trees have, not only physically improving our surroundings but mentally. Stress levels are reduced, depression levels alleviated, and the provision of a green space encourages physical activity, improving memory and cognitive function. If we want to reduce the chances of paddling to work in the future and improve our eco-credentials, it is essential we advance our methods of tackling climate change instead of making repeated mistakes.
Today, we are proud to be considered one of the greenest paving solutions on the market.
